Take ownership of change

Life has no meaning other than the meaning/s you assign to it. Your life experience is a product of the habits formed by you – your code of living. If you don’t like something in your life, it is your own doing. Transforming it is also in your hands. Taking ownership of yourself and not blaming others/situation is the start point – that is growing inside – out.

Once you have identified the changes needed to your habits(Both: the habits to refrain from and new habits to introduce in your life) then at least the change towards transformation has started. However, how to make the change is where people usually stumble.

Will share tips that helped me in making the change

  1. Not to take too many things in hand. Take 1 or 2 things to refrain from and 1 or 2 things to positively act on
  2. Take a 90 day horizon and inform everyone around you that these are the things you will not do/do and ask their help to implement it.
  3. If you are able to successfully adhere to your resolve for the 90 day period then you have gained mastery over the thing chosen & also the process of transformation, the point is not to stop there but now you have internalized the habit so it should form a part of your daily routine henceforth.
  4. Then take over the next set of to do’s/not to do’s and internalize them over another 90 day period. Over 3 to 5 years you could transform your personality completely…

I gave up undesirable habits of smoking, excessive coffee, alcohol coupled with late night binging, etc in this manner also formed desirable habits of meditating, running marathons, unconditionally helping people, sharing good thoughts and deeds in a similar manner, and the journey continues to take it to the next level…

Umr bhar Ghalib yahi bhool karta raha;

Dhool chehere par thi aur aina saaf karta raha…

Meaning: all my life I have made the same mistake; the dirt was on my face and yet I was only cleaning the mirror…Lets resolve to exit this world with the satisfaction that we made the efforts to not let this couplet of Mirza Ghalib’s apply to our lives…

  1. Yes.. We end up taking so many things in hands without concentrating on core thing … We have resolution plan but no implementation. ! Nicely explained…

    1. Thanks for your kind feedback. I’m glad that it inspired you now for the more important task of implementation. Change is 1% inspiration and 99% perspiration 😀

  3. Very nicely articulated implementation of resolutions made. I too have successfully given up smoking, alcohol & non-vegetarian food from last 1 year and feeling great.
